Recently it was time for the old enemies to face again as a test series between the England U21 and Scottish U21 teams took place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre from 28th June- 2nd July.
Three women's 1st XI girls were playing: Lorna Cruickshank for Scotland and Emily Kilner and Charlotte Childs for England.
The first match was a 5-1 win for England. Lorna stood out as a top forward and drove strong down the left wing to set up Scotland's goal to bring the side 2-1 at half time. However, this wasn't enough for England and the team carried the game away in the second half. Charlotte had a great game and created a number of excellent scoring opportunities and Emily sent some great balls into the circle from defence to threaten the Scottish D.
In the second match Scotland came out fighting hard and had an excellent first half, the journey was now well and truly out of their legs. Once again Lorna caused problems for the English defence, but two corner goals for England in the second half and one scored by Charlotte with a great right hand side deflection getting her name on the score sheet once more for England U21. The match finished 2-0 England.
The last match came at the end of a tough week but both teams were up for it. Scotland once again came out strong and tested England by changing up their press and putting a lot of pressure on the defence. Once England had settled into their rhythm they managed to disrupt the Scottish press and the game finished 4-2 win to England with Scotland scoring two class penalty corners.
The series was a success for England with 3 wins, but the Scottish team caused them challenges and were strong and threatening. All three girls proved their right to be selected for the test and made DUHC proud. We also had some great support from our coaches Gareth and Ali on the sideline cheering us all on.
Lorna has been selected for the U21 Europeans for Scotland following the camp which is a huge achievement and England selection will come out later in the summer.
Everyone from DUHC wishes Emily and Charlotte the best of luck.
